Being a fan on items of age, pedigree of build and timeless style, I absolutely love breathing new life into an item of furniture, an antigue, a sculpture, a lamp - you name it - if it's got age and or pedigree, I will give it a new lease of life.  The key to getting this right is sympathy for the item - not too much, nor too little - just the right amount of restoration.
